Enriched targets of Sr/sup 84/, Sr/sup 86/, Sr/sup 88/, Zr/sup 92/, Zr/ sup 94/, Ba/sup 134/, Ba/sup 136/, and Sm/sup 144/ were bombarded with 44- or 52- Mev nitrogen ions. The gamma quanta from the first excited levels of these nuclei were counted in coincidence with the inelastically scattered, heavy, nitrogen ions. Four p-n detectors were used to count the nitrogen ions, scattered at an angle of 135 deg with respect to the incident beam. A Nal(Tl) scintillation detector was used to count the gamma quanta. The high level of background gamma radiation due to the reaction of heavy nitrogen ions with impurities such as oxygen and carbon was eliminated by coincidence counting. A 2/ sup +/ level with an energy of 800 plus or minus lS kev was identified in Sr/ sup 84/. The first energy levels in Zr/sup 92/ and Zr/sup 94/ were each found to be equal to 920 kev. The first 21 level in Sm/sup 144/ was found to have an energy of 1630 kev, and a lifetime of 0.9 x 10/sup -13/ seconds. The energies, life times, and B(E2)+ probabilities are tabulated for all the spherical even- even nuclei which were investigated. (TTT)
