PRESSURE TUBE FOR NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4799226
A pressure tube passing through a reactor has a central portion situated inside the reactor core and made of a material of good mechanical resistance and transparency io neutrons but difficult to connect by welding to the end portions of the pressure tube. As a rule this material is zirconium or a zirconium-based alloy. This central portion before it is placed into the core, is fitted at both ends with composite sleeves, each sleeve comprising an inner tubular piece welded to the central portion and an outer tubular piece of a material of the same kind as the material of the reactor structure, e.g., stainless steel. A fluid tight connection of the tubular pieces is obtained by co-extrusion, brazing, or hooping. After placing the pressure tube in the reactor, the outer tubular pieces of the sleeves are welded onto tubes forming a part of the reactor structure and centering the pressure tube. (NPO)
