IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4701363
In a pressure tube reactor, the pressure tubes are generally made of a material having a low neutron absorption cross section and are connected to steel entrance or exit headers for the coolant. These connections pass steel nozzles forming a unity with the corresponding header. Each nozzle branches out at its end into two concentric tubular pieces forming between them an annular space into which is locked the end of the reactor pressure tube. This locking is performed by providing grooves in at least one of the inner surfaces of the annular space and in increasing the diameter of the inner tubular piece by the action of a mandrel, so that the material of the pressure tube, e.g., zirconium, is deformed and occupies finally the whole space between the concentric tubes of the steel nozzle.
