CONTROL SYSTEM FOR NUCLEAR REACTORS BASED ON THE USE OF NEUTRON ABSORBING FLUIDS
In a reactor vertical tubular containers are partially filled with a neutron absorbing liquid, the level of which is controlled for controlling the reactivity of the reactor. Preferably the space in each tubular container above the liquid level is occupied by a pressurized gas admitted to the space by a tube connected to the upper extremity of the container by valves to a high and low pressure gas container respectively, while the lower extremity of the tubular container is connected with a pressurized liquid container. The pressure in the low pressure gas container is lower than the pressure in the pressurized liquid container, while the pressure in the high pressure gas container is higher, so that the level of the neutron absorbing liquid may be changed by simply opening and closing the valves in an appropriate manner.
