PROCESS AND DEVICE ALLOWING THE SERVING, IN COOPERATION WITH SPECIAL MACHINES, OF THE VERTICAL CHANNELS OF A GAS COOLED NUCLEAR REACTOR

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4813238
ln a gas-cooled nuclear reactor having vertical channels, the charging and discharging of the fuel elements is effected through charging holes from a charging floor situated above the pressure vessel, each hole serving a group of reactor channels. The upper shnneld between the vessel and the charging fioor comprnnses two spaced layers. Each charging hole system comprises a lower tubular casing connected with the reactor vessel and ending with its upper extremity nearly in the middle of the interspace betwveen the said layers, this casing being normally closed by' a plug, and an upper tubular casing passing from the said charging floor through the upper shield and reaching to the proximity of the upper end of the lower casnnng. In each upper casing a tubular element may be inserted, so that it may be coupled in a tight manner firstly at nnts lower end with the upper extremity of the corresponding lower casing, and secondly at its upper extremity with the upper tubular casing and with the special operating machines effecting the charging or discharging. Preferably, the upper part of each such tubular element comprises a valve, which, when open, allows the passage of the plug closing the lower tubular casing and the introduction of the charging tabe system into the reactor vessel.
