METHOD OF PRODUCING STRONTIUM CARBONATE AND STRONTIUM SULFATE FROM BRINES CONTAINING CALCIUM AND STRONTIUM HALIDES

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4797808
A simple method is given for producing high-purity SrSO/sub 4/ or SrCO/ sub 3/ from brines containing calcium salts. The method comprises treating the brine wtth a soluble sulfate, heating to 105 deg C for l5 min, settling out the solids, leaching the solids with dilute HCl, and washing and drying the purified SrSO/sub 4/. For production of SrCO/sub 3/, the washed acid-leached sulfate is mixed with a solution of a soluble carbonate. (D.L.C.)
