The sample is dissolved in an acid mixture. U is complexed with ammonium tartrate and the iron reduced with hydroxylamine hydrochloride. The iron is determined absorptdometrically at pH 6.0 to 6.5 using 1:10 phenanthroline. The method is applicable to binary alloys of U with Mo, Nb, Al, and Ti. At the 135 ppm level, the standard deviation is plus or minus 2.8%. (T.F.H.)
