The cuprous complex with 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline is extracted from a tartrate medium at pH = 5 into chloroform, and the optical absorbancy of this solution is measured. The method is suitable for Cu determinations in the concentration range 10 to 250 ppm. At the 45 ppm level the standard deviation is plus or minus 2 ppm, and the method is considered to be free from bias. (T.F.H.)
