THE DETERMINATION OF IRON IN NIOBIUM-MOLYBDENUM ALLOYS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4248786
A solution of niobium--molybdenum alloy is obtained by a potassium bisulfate fusion followed by an ammonium tartrate leach. The pH of the solution is adjusted, the iron reduced with hydroxylamine hydrochloride, and determined as its ferrous ortho phenanthroline complex absorptiometrically. The method is applicable to alloys containing up to 25% molybdenum. The iron content of the final solution should not exceed 500 mu g. The precision (30) is equivalent to plus or minus 4.5 mu g iron at the 100 mu e level,
