THE DIFFERENTIAL CROSS-SECTION FOR THE (d,p) REACTION ON THE ISOTOPES OF NICKEL (in Ukrainian)

Deuterons with an enengy of 13.6 Mev struck a thin nickel target (2 to 3 mg/cm/sup 2/). The protons from the (d,p) reaction on nickel were counted on a scintillation spectrometer with a CsI(Tl) and a NaI(Tl) crystal. The solid angle subtended by the spectrometer varied from 1.34 x 10/sup -4/ to 2.7 x 10/sup -5/ sterads. The deuteron current was measured with a Faraday cage. The results of a number of measurements were averaged. The instrument was calibrated by measuring the differential cross section for the (d,p) reaction on C/sup 12/. A value of sigma /sub max/ =13.5 mbarns/sterad was obtained for C/sup 12/, and this value agreed well with the literature value of 15.5 mbarns/sterad. The values of sigma /sub max/ in mbarns/sterad were found to be 26.2 for the Ni/sukp 58/(d,p)Ni/sup 59/ reaction, 17.1 for the Ni60(d,p)Ni/sup 60/ reaction, 16.4 for the Ni/sup 62/(d,p)Ni/sup 63/ reaction, and 20.5 for the Ni/sup 64/(d,p) Ni/sup; 65/ reaction. Values of the reduced width theta /sup 2/calculated from Batler's formulas were found to extend from 0.016 for the Ni/sup 62/ (d,p)Ni/sup 63/ reaction to 0.035 for the Ni/sup 58/(n,p) Ni/sup 59/ r eaction.
