CONTROL MECHANISM FOR THE FULL ELEMENT HANDLING DEVICE IN A NUCLEAR REACTOR
A device is designed for charging and discharging the fuel elements, each vertically positioned in a group of parallel reactor channels, through a single upper opening in the reactor vessel wall, this opening being in alignment with a hole in the top of the core situated in the center of said group. A tubular support is rotatably mounted with its two ends in said opening and said centering hole. In this support a curved charging tube is articulated about a horizontal axis, so that its lower end may be brought above each of the channel extremities. The rotation of the tubular support relative to the centering hole controls the rotatory movement of the charging tube in its articulation; this is suitably effected by a male and female screw system, the said male screw being connected with a tubular piece sliding in axial direction in the lower part of the tubular support and controlling the rotatory movement of the charging tube about its articulation by this axial movement via a lever, while the female screw is connected with a nose mounted at the lower extremity of this support and able to rotate with respect to the latter. The nose is locked against rotation in a hole provided in the core structure in the center of the said group but may slide freely therein in axial direction. The support system may be moved with the charging tube in an axial direction in order to bring the end of the charging tube into contact with the suitably funnelshaped ends of the reactor channels.
