The effect of the exchange between magnetic ions on the elastic and inelastic scattering of neutrons by rare earth ions exposed to the action of a crystalline field was studied. In general, the ray length does not tend toward zero with the length of the scattering vector. The calculation is applied to the case of Ce/sup 3+/ ions in a cubic field. (tr-auth)
