PARAMAGNETIC SCATTERING OF NEUTRONS BY RARE EARTH IONS (in French)

Journal Article · · Phys. and Chem. Solids
The paramagnetic scattering of neutrons by rare-earth ions was studied. By using a method proposed by G. T. Trammel the crystalline field effects were taken into account. A means of direct determination is proposed for the level splittings of the ions. Experiments by W. C. Koehler and E. O. Wollan are discussed. The validity of the law I approximately sin/sup 2/ beta (where beta is the angle between the scattering vector and the magnetic moments) was examined. (auth)
