ABWR QUARTERLY PROGRESS REPORT, JULY 1-SEPTEMBER 30, 1961 ON DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT
In reactor development and evaluation, work is reported on mininzation of the control rod drive mechanism, evaluation of PL-2 core lifetime, response of PL-2 type reactor to steam demand transients, and evaluation of fuel assembly and control system. In plant development and evaluation, work is reported on site adaptation, refueling. modifications to the turbine generator skid, and gaseous waste system. An experimental program is in progress to resolve the physics uncertainties in the PL core design. Activties in this program were centered around facility design and fabrication, experimental plans, calculations and support experiments, and evaluation of safeguards. In other work, the utilities and miscellaneous services within the SL-1 area were examined for potential use with a PL plant complete razing of the SL-1 reactor building with appropriate restorations is presented.
