PHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF CERIUM(IV) EMPLOYING DIPHENYLAMINE

Journal Article · · Chemist Analyst
OSTI ID:4795230
A method is outlined for determining cerium(IV). The method involves the formation of a violet color of diphenylamine at an oxidation potential above + 0.76 v (that of cerium(IV) is + 1.44 v) and photometric measurement of the 575 m mu peak. The acid conditions. order of reagent addition, and other variables are important for stable color. The method may also be applied to determination of total cerium by addition of a persulfate oxidation step. (D.L.C.)
