Radioprotective effects of 5-methoxytryptamine with BETA mercaptoethylamine or BETA -mercaptopropylamine or both were analyzed for various radiation doses. Applications of 5-methoxytryptamine with mercaptoamine are effective even for lethal doses (1000 r), while separate applications of these preparations do not prevent fatalities. Applications of BETA - methoxytryptamine and BETA -mercaptoethylamine reduced degenerative changes in the cells and the number of micronecrotic nidi in the marrow and spleen of mice and rats. Applications of all three preparations are much more effective in reducing degenerative and micronecrotic changes in the hematopoietic cells. (R.V.J.)
