Removal of deposited plutonium by triethylenetetramine hexaacetic acid

Journal Article · · Nature
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1038/1931303a0· OSTI ID:4795212

Adult female rats were injected intravenously with plutonium as the citrate complex and administered with triethylenetetramine hexaacetic acid (TTHA) or diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA), either orally or intraperitoneally. Excreta were collected for 4 days subsequent to treatment, after which the rats were killed. The excreta, liver, femur, and total rat were analyzed for plutonium. The results indicate little difference between the two chemicals, with TTHA being somewhat more toxic and superior to DTPA in oral doses.
