A NUCLEAR REACTOR SAFETY ROD COUNTING SYSTEM USING THE DIRECT-CURRENT BRIDGE PRINCIPLE (thesis)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4794063
Submitted to University of Idaho, Moscow. A general description is presented concerning the com plete interconnection between the first and third safety systems for use in high-energy reactors. Development of a component to achieve the desired interconnecting logic is also described. This component is based on an eventcounting concept appearing as a Wheatstone bridge network which utilizes a sensitive polarized relay as the bridge detector. Included are design criteria for the bridge components, component selection, component tolerance, and construction and application of the bridge. A second type of rod-counting system is also described for safety back-up. (J.R.D.)
