A method is outlined for controlling a boiling reactor. The methed comprises forming a linkage between the means for controlling the reactivity and a device for controlling the thermal demand of a thermal system associated with the reactor, e.g., a steam flow control valve. The method may be used with a variety of reactivity control systems, e.g., a steam flow control valve. The method may be used with a variety of reactivity control systems, e.g., articulated fuel or moderator rods, moderating liquids, and vibration of coolant, and its use with the reactor described in British Patent 900,015 is described in detail.
