IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO THE COOLANT FLOW-CONTROL IN NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4792183
In order to control the coolant flow in each channel of a nuclear reactor individually, the entrance of each reactor channel is provided with a regulating organ. The said channels are extended by double-walled tubes passing through the space constituting the entrance header for the coolant. At a certain level, each of these tubes has a series of lateral openings through which the coolant enters from the header. In the annular spsce between the two walls, a further tube slides in such a way that one of the extremities of the latter may close the said openings progressively, by its axial movement, thus regulating the coolant flow through these openings. The axial position of this latter tube is adjusted by screwing its other extremity into or out of fittings in the reactor support structure. On this latter extremity, a bar with a square cross section is mounted so as to protrude inside the extremity of the inner of the double walled tube, so that the screwing action may also be performed from the other extremity of the channel by an appropriate tool passing through the said reactor channel and capable of being coupled with said bar.
