STUDY OF THE Si$sup 28$(n,/cap alpha/) REACTION AND EXPERIMENTAL EVIDENCE OF THE ERICSON FLUCTUATIONS

The cross sections of Si/sup 28/(n, alpha )Mg/sup 25/ reaction for the transition to the ground state and to the first excited states of the residual nucleus Mg/sup 25/ were measured as a function of neutron energy. The measurement was done in the neutron energy range 12.5 to 18.5 Mev with a beam resolution of about 100 kev; a solid state semiconductor Si detector was used. The results of the measurements were analyzed with the theory of the compound nucleus recently developed by T. Ericson. Also the reactions Al/sup 27/(p, alpha ) and Si/sup 28/ (d, alpha ) at excitation energy such as to be in the region of overlapped levels were analyzed. (auth)
