Si(n,p)Al AND Si(n,$alpha$)Mg REACTIONS IN THE NEUTRON ENERGY RANGE OF 6-9 Mev

The cross sections of the reactions Si/sup 28/(n, alpha )Mg/sup 25/, Si/ sup 28/(n,p)Al/sup 28/, and Si/sup 29/ (n, alpha )Mg/sup 26/ were measured in the neutron energy range of 6 to 9 Mev by bombarding a Si solid state detector with neutrons from the D(d,n)He/sup 3/ reaction. The excitation functions show fluctuations in accord with Ericson's prediction for the overlapping level region of the compound nucleus for small beam-energy spread. (D.C.W.)
