Transistors for Avalanche-Mode Operation

Selected Motorola transistors of the MM-486, -457, and -488 type were found to be useful for avalanche-mode operation. A circuit for selecting avalanche units is described. Ten to 30% of the transistors usually will avalanche. The time delay between the trigger pulse and the rise of the avalanche current is discussed.
