Reactivity control for pressurized water-cooled thermal reactors can be obtained by employing H/sub 2/O--D/sub 2/O as the moderator and changing the H/D ratio of the moderator to increase the neutron slowing down power as the reactor core is burned up. One advantage of such reactivity control is that the life of the core is extended owing to the increase in the conversion ratio. (D.L.C.)
