IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO CONTROL RODS OF NUCLEAR REACTORS
A control rod drive adapted to insert a control rod into the bottom of the reactor core comprises a drive mechanism being placed in the reactor vessel. This control rod drive means comprises a pinion, the driving axle of which passes through the pressure vessel and the biological shielding, a toothed rack vertically moved by a rotation of this pinion and mounted in a slotted inner tube, and an outer tube into which this inner tube slides. At the lower end of the inner tube a first lever is articulated which supports at its other extremity the control rod, while a second lever is articulated at the lower extremity of the outer tube, so that the first lever swivels and moves the control rod when a relative movement between the tubes is produced. Spring means work against the action of the driving motor so that when the motor couple disappears, this spring means induces the control rod into the reactor core. (NPO)
