DOUBLE COULOMB EXCITATION OF THE O$sup +$ LEVEL IN GERMANIUM-70 (in Russian)

If the Coulomb excitation is studied by making use of high-energy particles, in particular with ions havng multiple charges, the probability of excitation by an individual collision becomes near 1 and higher-order effects, such as double excitation, become possible. In even-even nuclei this causes excitation of 0/sup +/ and 4/sup +/ levels and broadens the field of Coulomb excitation studies. The double excitation of the 0+ level was studied, designating it as 0/sup +/ to differentiate it from the ground state. In the experiments the N ion beam from the cyclotron, accelerated to 36 Mev, was directed on a natural Ge target, the gamma radiation being recorded by means of 2 shielded NaI(Tl) scintillation counters, and the gamma quania in coincidence with the 1036-kev quanta were studied by means of a 64-channel amplitude analyzer. The B(E2) value obtained for exciting the first level with a spin of 2+ was found to be 0.15 plus or minus 0.03 x 10/sup -48/ e/sup 2/cm/sup 4/, agreeing well with published values. The value of B(E2,0 yields 2) exceeds the value of B(E2,0 yields 2) by a factor of nearly 3. (TTT)
