>A finned fuel element is designed for use at high temperatures. The fuel elemert comprises a fuel housed in a cortainer of beryllium or other materials having a low neutron absorption and good strength properties at temperatures approximates 500 deg C, which in turn is housed in a graphite cortainer with extended fins. The fins may be helically disposed around the fuel elemert and may be irterrupted by longitudinal baffles to locate the element in a reactor channel. (D.L.C.)
