OSTI ID:4781633
A reactor fuel cartridge of the sheathed type is designed with a strengthened end structure so that a plurality of cartridges may be stacked without deformation of the ends. In the end structure, the plug closing the lower end is provided with at least one binding of a (refractory) material more resistant to flow than the plug material, which is generally the same as the sheath material, usually a Mg alloy. The binding may be in the shape of collars fitted over the plug, reinforcing rings sunk into the interior of the plug, etc.; several embodiments of possible bindings are described. (D.L.C.)
