It has recently been shown that the Cr in Cr(CO)/su 6/ can be replaced by the Mo produced in U fission and that the Mo alone of the fission products forms a stable hexacarbonyl. It is shown that from the heterogeneous irradiated mixture, the fission-produced Mo can be sublimated 30 sec after irradiation as Mo(CO)/sub 6/ with Cr(CO)/sub 6/ as the carrier without contamination of other fission products. The Tc produced in the sublimate cannot be sublimated. It remains after a second sublimation as a carrier-free residue. The Tc daughter was idertified by half-life measurements, gamma spectrum, and the Ru decay products. Results of the studies made on the decay series Mo/sup 104/ yields Tc/sup 104/ yields Ru/sup 104/ using these methods are reported. Beta decay measurements on the residue of the second sublimate gave a half life of 18 min. The gamma spectrum showed prominent lines at 890, 530, 360, and 307 kev. The 890 and 360 kev lines were assigned to the decay to the ground level of Ru/sup 104/. The measurement of the Tc/sup 104/ to the Tc/sup 101/ activity as a function of time gave a value of 1.1 plus or minus 0.1 min for the half life of Mo/sup 104/ (J.S.R.)
