Observations were collected on the R/sub 3/ progeny of plants of Zea mays irradiated with doses of 500 to 1000 r x radiation. The data were analyzed for information on the relation between dose of radiation and increase of genetic variance for quantitative traits. Data are included from an analysis of results of irradiation on genetic factors in the R/sub 2/ and R/sub 3/ generation of two varieties of spring wheat. The relation between radiation dose and genetic variability in the R/sub 2/ and R/sub 3/ generations is discussed. (C.H.)
