CHANGES IN THE RESPONE OF THE BRAIN BLOOD VESSELS TO ADRENALIN, ACETYL CHOLIN AND HEXONIUM AFTER WHOLE-BODY EXPOSURE TO IONIZING RADIATION (in Russian)
Changes in the sensitivity of the receptor organs, synaptic groups, and the microstructure of the nerve cells play an important role in the radiation injury of the central nervous system. The effect of materials such as adrenalin and acetyl cholin which influence the tone of the brain vessels must be determined together wlth ganglion-inhibiting action of hexanium, in order to obtain a clearer understanding of these processes. For this reason, the flow rate of the blood in the brain vessels of the rabbits used for the tests was measured by means of thermoelectrodes placed in openings in the parietal bones of the skull, recording sinmultaneously the ear temperature of the animals by means of a resistance thermometer. After exposing the anlmals to 1000 r of radiation, it was found that the reactivity of the brain vessels toward adrenalin and acetyl cholin changes; differences were also noted in the behavior of the brain vessels toward hexonium when the vegetative ganglions and motor-vascular centers are blocked. It was concluded from these experiments that the neuro-humoral regulation of the tone of the brain vessels is affected by exposure to ionizing radiation. (TTT)
