A 57% enriched Sn/sup 114/ target was bombarded with 21-Mev alpha particles in order to produce Te/sup 117/ by a Sn/sup 114/ ( alpha ,n)Te /sup 117/ reaction. The Te was separated from the Sn by eluting from a Dowex-1, anion exchanger with 0.1N oxalic acid. The Te activity was mounted on an aluminum foil 5 mu thick. A double-lens BETA spectrometer and a calibrated scintillation spectrometer (with a 10% resolution for the 0.66 gamma line of Cs/sup 137/) were used for the spectrometric studies. The half life of Te/sup 117/ was determined from the rise and fall of the 160-kev K-conversion line, and was found to be 65 plus or minus 5 min. A Kurie plot of the BETA /sup +/ spectrum of Te/ sup 117/ is a straight line up to H approximately 3600 oe cm (E approximately 700 kev) with an upper limit at E 1810 plus or minus 20 kev. A small amount of a 690 kev BETA /sup +/ may be present. A conversion electron spectrum was taken from 25 to 800 kev. K and L conversion lines from the 720 kev gamma -transition were detected at 690 and 716 kev. The K/L ratio = 8.3. The energies and relative intensities of a number of hard gamma lines with a half life of 1.1 hours are given. The number of positrons per decay is 0.31. The value of log ft for the BETA /sup +/-transition with an upper energy of 1810 kev is 5.3. Hence, this transition is allowed. A decay scheme for Te/sup 117/ is presented. (TTT)
