LEVELS IN CO$sup 5$$sup 9$
The beta decay of Fe/sup 59/ and Co/sup 59/ levels was studied with as intermediate image beta -ray spectrometer and a scintillation spectrometer. Kurie plots of the beta spectra of Fe/sup 59/ were made, and the spectra analysis results are tabulated. A search for internal conversion lines revealed a weak line corresponding to internal conversion in Co/sup 59/ of a 70-kev transition, and the intensity of this line relative to the total beta spectrum is 0.25 plus or minus 0.07%. A 70-kev gamma ray is also seenin the low- energy gamma spectrum of Fe/sup 59/, and it is proposed that a 70-kev transition exists in addition to transitions at 135, 70-kev gamma ray is gamma /sub 70// gamma /sub 135/ =0.5 plus or minus 0.2 and gamma /sub 70//( gamma / sub 1100/ +ggamma /sub 1290)=/ 0.42 plus or minus 0.2%, and the 70-kev transition conversion coefficient of 0.6 plus or minus 0.45 requires an angular momentum change of not more than two units. The 70-kev transition does not fit into the existing decay scheme and should start from another level at least 70 kev above one of the known excited states. A discussion of the Co/sup 59/ levels is given. (D.L.C.)
