Magnetic susceptibilities of Gd2O3 and Dy2O3 are studied from about 300 to 1500 deg K and 300 to 1250 deg K respectively. The paramagnetic susceptibility data of both oxides obey the Curie-Weiss law. This information supports the suggestion that the small deviations from the Curie- Weiss law found in gadolinium and dysprosium metals result from conduction electron magnetization. The ions Gd3+ and Dy3+ in the oxides possess the Bohr msgneton numbers 7.80 and 10.52, respectively.
