SUBSTITUTED p-OLIGOPHENYLENES AS SOLUTE FOR LIQUID SCINTILLATORS (in German)

The relative pulse height of liquid scintillators with methyl and methoxyl substituted p-quaterphenyls, pquinquephenyls, and p-sexiphenyls as solutes was measured. Almost all the compounds gave good scintillators. The most favorable properties were shown by the derivatives of p-quaterphenyls, whereas the p-quinquephenyls and p-sexiphenyls, on the other hand, showed no decided advantages. Some of the compounds investigated are at least equivalent in pulse height to known solutes. The excellent solubility and the remarkable stability makes them superior to the known compounds.
