MAGNETIC MOMENT OF THE LAMBDA

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4774299

>An experiment was carried out to measure the magnetic moment of the A hyperons. The LAMBDA hyperons were produced from a secondary beam of 1.2-Bev/ c pi mesons. The hyperons were polarized, so the magnetic moment was determined by measuring the precession of the direction of polarization in a strong magnetic field. A total of 88 LAMBDA hyperons was identified in 40,000 pictures. Only about 20 of these passed through the precession magnet. Results indicated a value for the magnetic moment of 0 plus or minus 1/2 nuclear Bohr magnetron. (M.C.G.)
