Luminescent properties of ZnS phosphors prepared at room temperature

Journal Article · · Physica Status Solidi B. Basic Solid State Physics
ZnS phosphors prepared from solutions of ZnS salts at room temperature and atmospheric pressure, regulating the rate of nucleation and growth, exhibited intense luminescence. Phosphors prepared by the Ontmann method exhibited luminescence only after about a year. The emission of the two phosphors shows distinct differences. The ZnS prepared by the authors has a very wide emission band covering the whole visible spectral range. A change in the relation between the bands makes it possible to change the color of the emitted light from white to bluish or reddish, suggesting that the radiation consists of broad structureless bands. The Ontmann ZnS contains only one band.
