BS>Studies were made of a theta-pinch plasma column with axial magnetic field compressed by an increasing external longitudinal magnetic field. The plasma is formed by a traveling shock wave. The analysis is confined to the compression of the plasma layer formed by a shock wave in a non-conducting gas. (R.V.J.)
