Emergency devdces are known wherein liquid neutron absorbent material is located above the reactor core and under conditions of emergency is allowed to fall into a duct in the core. Improved means are provided for resetting the equipment after a trip. These means comprise a plunger in the duct and normally resting at the bottom of the duct. The plunger, which in this position supports the neutron absorbent material after a trip, is connected to a rod, cable, or the like whereby after a trip the plunger may be lifted so as to lift the neutron absorbent material to make it flow over the edge of the upper open extremity of the duct in order to let it fall into an annular space forming a container from which the material may be released again in the case of an emergency.
