An apparatus is designed for viewing in water objects or operations which give rise to radiations, e.g., unsheathing of uranium rods. The apparatus comprises a tube closed at the upper end by a lens and at the other end by a transparent element, and filled with a transparent liquid to protect the observer and the lens. The lens is a concavo-convex lens with both faces parallel and is mounted with the concave face in contact with the liquid in the tube to give an enlarged image of the object. The tube is suspended and moved by means of a movable carriage. (D.I.C.)
