METHOD OF BRAZING GRAPHITE ARTICLES

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4770013
A method is given for forming firm and leak-tight joints between graphite articles for use in reactors. The method uses a brazing alloy containing more than 40.8% Fe and one or more of Cr, Ni, Mo, W, Ti, Zr, and C, and the brazing may be done by induction heating at 1200 to 1600 deg C or arc heating. The resulting bonds are strong and corrosionresistant and have only a small effect on the neutron economy of a reactor amounting to an increase of 10% in the neutron absorption cross section when the amount of alloy used is 1/3000 of the graphite mass.
