BRAZING GRAPHITE TO NILO-K TUBES

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4239899
A method of brazing graphite to Nilo-K tube is described. The object was to provide leak-tight joints between graphite samples and metal carrier tubes, for permeability measurements of the graphite at temperitures up to 900 deg C and high pressures. The specimen and tube are assembled, together with the brazing wire of copper-silver eutectic with a 12% titanium core, in a silica envelope, and brazing is done at 950 deg C in a high vacuum. Successful brazes have been made between Nilo-K tube and EY9, impregnated EY9, and reactor-grade '' A'' graphites. ( auth)
