>The vapor pressure of NbO/sub 2/ was measured in Knudsen effusion chamber made of forged molybdenum. The diameter of the opening was 0.308 mm, and the ratio of the evaporating area to the area of the opening was 500: 1. A rhenium--tungsten thermocouple was used to measure the bardment. Niobium pentoxide tagged with Nb/sup 95/ was reduced to NbO/sub 2/ by hydrogen at a temperature of 1000 deg C. The vapor pressure of NbO/sub 2/ can be represented by the following equation: Ig P = (--30,300/T) + 12.42 mm. The heat of sublimation was found to be 138 plus or minus 2 kcal/mol. The standard heat of sublimation is DELTA H/sub 0/ = 141 plus or minus 0.4 kcal/mol. The energy for the dissociation of gaseous NbO/sub 2/ was calculated to be 14.9 plus or minus 0.1 ev. (TTT)
