IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO FLUID-COOLED HETEROGENEOUS NUCLEAR REACTORS

Two methods are given for reducing the possibility of levitation of fuel sleeves from the channels of gas-cooled reactors by coolant flow. One method comprises forming recesses in the channel walls in the region of the uppermost fuel sleeve of a stack so that the coolant flow is bypassed around this sleeve. The other method comprises removing the circumferential projections from the uppermost sleeve to prevent restriction of the space in this region. The fuel sleeves are of the type described in British Patent 879,902. (D.L.C.)
