PHOTOPRODUCTION OF $pi$$sup 0$ MESONS IN HYDROGEN AND DEUTERIUM AT SMALL ANGLES (in Russian)

Previously described experiments on the measurement of the cross section ratio for gamma + d deg (d + pi /sup 0//n + p + pi /sup 0/), gamma + p = p + pi /sup 0/ near threshold energy, were extended to the meson theta /sub pi / approximates 0/sup 0/ emission angle. In contrast to the previous experiments, the differential cross sections were measured directiy, the pi /sup 0/ mesons were recorded with an ordinary gamma telescope by two quantum decay, and the intensity of the bremsstrahlung was measured with a quantometer. The differertial cross sections and the ratio of cross sections for pi /sup 0/ photoproduction in hydrogen and deuterium show that at theta /sub pi / approximates 0/sup 0/ the results are in agreement with theoretical calculations for 200 to 250 Mev. At less than 200 Mev the results are about 2 standard deflection factors higher than theoretical. It is postulated that the discrepancy is due to the pi /sup 0/ contribution from pi /sup plus or minus / scattering with pi /sup plus or minus / recharge at small energies delta /sub pi / >> sigma /sub 0/.
