Photoproduction of D sup + mesons

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:5261089

D{sup {plus minus}} mesons have been observed in photoproduction in Fermilab experiment E687. A sample of approximately 2,500 events of the decay D{sup {plus minus}} {yields} K{sup {plus minus}}{pi}{sup {plus minus}}{pi}{sup {plus minus}} has been analyzed. The cross section for x{sub f} > 0 is measured to be BR {center dot} {sigma} = 0.368 {plus minus} 0.073 {plus minus} 0.111 {mu}b/Be nucleus at average photon energy of 220 GeV. The cross section dependence on incident photon energy, Feynman x, and transverse momentum has also been measured and found to be in good agreement with other measurements. The lifetime of the D{sup {plus minus}} has been measured to be 1.061 {plus minus} 0.039 {plus minus} 0.020 picoseconds. This measurement is also good agreement with recent results.
