BS>A shutdown device for gas-cooled reactors is designed which is operated automatically in response to abnormal conditions in the reactor and independertly of the electrical safety circuits of the reactor. The device comprises a latch for suspending a control rod above a reactor channel, and a mechanism for releasing the latch. The mechanism is responsive to the rate of fall of gas pressure. (D.L.C.)
