The nuclear research reactor R2-0 with a thermal power of 100 kw is used primarily for materials testing. The fuel elements (of enriched uranium) are immersed in a pool of water and are cooled by means of free convection. The control rods are made of cadmium-covered boron carbide. The measuring, control, and regulating equipment is so designed that the reactor is easy to run and reliable in service. (auth)
