THE INFLUENCE OF SPECIFIC HEMOLYSINS ON THE PHAGOCYTOSIS DYNAMICS IN THE PERITONEAL EXUDATE DURING RADIATION SICKNESS (in Russian)
Phagocytosis of peritoneal exudate leukocytes was studied in vivo at various stages of radiation sickness, considering the possible effects of hemolysis induced by foreign particles. Experiments on 85 300 to 500 g guinea pigs exposed to 350 to 400 r showed a slow drop in phagocytic number; the drop in animals irradiated with 400 r was smaller than in those exposed to 360 r. Administration of staphylococcus also induced a drop in the phagocytic number, however, the drop was not as catastrophic as that induced in the erythrocytes. The hemolysis titer on the 17th to 20th day after irradiation was 1 : 800 and 1 : 1000, while in control animals it was 1 : 1200 to 1 : 1600, indicating a certain depression in hemolysin production on exposure to 400 r.
