Chemical processes induced in bromo- and chloroacetates and acetic acid by solid-state Br/sup 81/(n, gamma )Br/sup 82/ reactions (and for liquid-phase acetic acid) are investigated. Analyses of products containing Br/sup 82/ recoil atoms reveal several compounds with variable yields depending on halogen properties, alpha -position in relation to COOH group, and the phase during irradiation. It is shown that the yield of CH/sub 3/Br/sup 82/ depends on the separation method. The yields of other products do not depend on the separation method. The possible mechanism of the secondary chemical reactions of recoil atoms in Be/sup 82/-bromoacetate and chloroacetate reaction is discussed. (R.V.J.)
